My family moved here in the late 50's. As a kid I have fond memories of riding the streets of Terrell Hills on my Firestone Rocket bicycle, with my friends, and we had the run of the neighborhood. I remember riding laps around the Geneseo Parkway on our bikes, re-creating the Indianapolis 500 race, complete with sound effects! Back then it was a wide clear area, and those big oaks you see now were 4 ft twigs somebody with an early "green" concept had planted. It was a great place to grow up and still is, but could it be better? Myself, and a few friends and neighbors think it could, and that's why we came up with the 20GREEN Project.
The 20green movement is something we thought up, mostly while out enjoying the outdoors and streets of our city. You can pass laws all day long, but until we all make a conscience decision to do the right thing, regardless of our "rights" to perhaps do otherwise, then I would suggest that Eldon and many other streets in Terrell Hills are not going to be a place that kids, pedestrians, runners and cyclist can feel "comfortable" and safe. What a lot of us want to say is "Twenty is Plenty". 20MPH will often (but not always, we understand) get you where you want to go in an environmentally reasonable, friendly manner. If as many of us a possible participate, we are convinced you will see a positive return for the community.
Thanks! - Whit Snell, Project Director
